“Kosuke Okahara will share his photography journey, from his early social documentary projects to the recent struggle to make new work, being open about accomplishments as well as mistakes.
Having “fallen out of love” with photography after working professionally for over a decade, Okahara stated that his latest oeuvre “Blue Affair” helps resolve his conflict with the term ‘documentary’, as he questioned himself sometimes whether he is illustrating the stories rather than documenting what is taking place.
Presented as a photobook and experimental film, “Blue Affair” chronicles Okahara’s random encounters and recurring dreams of a strange town in Okinawa, Japan. It won the 2022 World Press Photo award in the Open Format category.“

Exhibition, “PHOTOBOOKS – art page by page“ at Grass Museum in Leipzig
A complete set of art books “Vanishing existence“ (Oban edition, Scroll edition, and trade edition) will be exhibited at Leipzig’s Grassi Museum starting from November 25th, 2021 to April 3rd, 2022.
This is the first time I am showing Oban (big size - 100x70cm) edition in public.

Cover shot and feature story for Newsweek Japan on SDGs. It was nice to spend time in nature in Shikoku island. The place where I visited recycles 80% of the waste of the town ! Quite amazing they manage to do this. They also run a shop where people bring their stuffs from home ( dishes cloths etc etc and anyone can bring them back home. Sort of same in Parisien street where people put stuffs on the street and others take them back home but more organized and clean way. It’s really a place to visit to learn “recycling“ and environment . Beautiful moss I shot for the cover is in Yajmainudake mountain.
