THE BACKYARD opens in Kyoto
2019.10.08
Finally I finished building THE BACKYARD, a space for photography in Kyoto. This is basically where I work and print but I am planning to use it as semi-open space for those who want to gather and discuss about things around photography. There was already a worshop organized with Valentina Abenavoli, co-founder of Akina books, one of well known publishers in Italy, on making photo books. It was really a great workshop and I am happy that Valentina came all the way from Italy to share her knowledge and experiences in photo books. Hope to have her here again soon.
In addition to workshops, we are thinking to organize a monthly event where people can come freely to exchange their ideas or show their works each other or meet others for possible collaboration. Hope the place will serve something more than just my work space.

Making of Magnum Live Lab 2019 / Kyotographie
2019.05.15
Here is the making of Magnum Live Lab 2019 / Kyotographie.
I was invited to shoot a project at Magnum Live Lab 2019 in Kyotographie alone with Paolo Pellegrin.
My project was to shoot “Yoshiadryo”, a controversial 106 years old autonomous students’ dormitory at Kyoto University during the Magnum Live Lab 2019 at Kyotographie.
Live Lab is an experimental Labolatory of photography. Photographers shoot a project during 2 weeks and exhibit at the end of the residency.
